About CapitalAtlass

Making brokers, stocks, and retirement accounts easier to compare

CapitalAtlass started from a simple frustration: comparing brokers, investments, and retirement accounts online usually means wading through either dense, jargon-heavy financial documents or thin, recycled “best of” lists that all say roughly the same thing. We wanted something in between — research-backed, specific, and honest about trade-offs, without requiring a finance degree to understand.

We’re not a bank, a brokerage, or a registered investment advisor. We’re an independent research and publishing site. Our job is to dig through fee schedules, IRS contribution limits, fund prospectuses, and company disclosures so you don’t have to, and to present what we find as clearly as possible.

What We Cover

CapitalAtlass is organized around four areas we think matter most to everyday investors:

  • Brokers & Investing Apps — where to actually open an account, compared by who you are (beginner, active trader, retiree) rather than a single generic ranking.
  • Stocks & ETFs — dividend stocks, growth stocks, index funds, and ETFs, with real yield, expense ratio, and valuation data behind every comparison.
  • Trading Platforms & Tools — the charting software, screeners, and trading tools that sit behind the trades themselves.
  • Retirement & Passive Income Investing — Roth IRAs, 401(k)s, IRAs and other ways to build income you won’t have to actively manage forever.

We deliberately don’t try to cover every corner of personal finance. Staying focused on these four areas lets us go deeper on each one instead of publishing shallow content everywhere.

How We Research and Rank

Every guide on CapitalAtlass follows the same basic process:

We start from primary sources. Fees, contribution limits, and account terms come from official sources — a broker’s own fee schedule, the IRS’s published guidance, a fund’s official prospectus — rather than being copied from other comparison sites.

We name our sources for opinions and estimates. When we cite a price target, a “fair value” estimate, or a performance claim, we attribute it to the specific research firm or company that made it. An analyst’s opinion is not a fact, and we try never to present it as one.

We organize by use case, not just alphabetically or by popularity. A “best broker” list that doesn’t distinguish between a beginner and an active options trader isn’t very useful. Wherever possible, we tell you which type of investor a given option is actually built for.

We revisit our numbers. Interest rates, contribution limits, expense ratios, and broker fee schedules all change — sometimes several times a year. We periodically review and update our most-visited guides so the figures you’re reading are current, and we date every article with its last update.

We flag risk even when it’s inconvenient. Some of the topics we cover — gold IRAs, annuities, day trading, options — involve products or strategies with real downsides, aggressive sales tactics elsewhere online, or a documented tendency for retail investors to lose money. We’d rather tell you that clearly than leave it out to make an article sound more appealing.

How CapitalAtlass Makes Money

CapitalAtlass is funded by advertising (Google AdSense). Our guides currently contain no affiliate links. If we add affiliate links in the future, every guide that contains them will say so at the top, before any comparison, and name the partners. Advertisers cannot pay to be included or ranked. Full details are in our Editorial Policy & Methodology.

What CapitalAtlass Is Not

We think it’s just as important to be clear about our limitations as it is to describe what we do.

We are not a registered investment advisor, broker-dealer, or licensed insurance agency. Nothing on this site is personalized financial, investment, tax, or legal advice, and nothing here should be read as a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any specific security, account, or financial product.

We don’t know your personal financial situation. Our guides are built to be useful starting points for research, not substitutes for advice tailored to your income, goals, tax situation, and risk tolerance. For decisions with significant, long-term consequences — rolling over a retirement account, purchasing an annuity, opening a self-directed IRA — we consistently recommend speaking with a licensed, independent financial or tax professional before acting.

We can’t guarantee outcomes. Every investment carries risk, including the possible loss of principal, and past performance never guarantees future results — regardless of how an article on this site is titled or framed.

Our Standards for Sensitive Topics

A few areas of personal finance attract more aggressive marketing than others — precious metals retirement accounts, annuities, and high-yield income products among them. On these topics specifically, we commit to:

  • Explaining the full cost structure prominently, not buried at the end of an article.
  • Never using language designed to create urgency or fear about the economy to encourage a decision.
  • Clearly separating a company’s own marketing claims (like an advertised average return) from independently verified facts.
  • Recommending independent, fee-only professional advice before any large or irreversible financial decision.
